Pics from South Carolina

At Uncle Grant and Aunt Shana's wedding. Only a month overdue. Here are some highlights, but the whole album is here.

Addie's first steps

She has been dabbling with walking all week, walking around the house holding on to us with only one hand, standing up freestyle, using the Giraffe scooter as a walker. But three days ago she took two unaided steps. Yesterday, she was up to six steps. Yikes!

July was a big month

As the title of this post notes, July was a big month for the kids. It included two trips, lots of pool time, playdates, new intellectual levels, and a whole lot of fun.

First up, the trips. We all traveled to South Carolina (Hilton Head Island) over the 4th of July to witness Uncle Grant and Aunt Shana get married. Grandma Debbie and Grandpa Jerry were also there as well as Shana's step-mom Cathy. It was a beautiful, small wedding right on the beach. Sam and Addie did great on the multiple flights to and from (4 in all) and Sam got to sit in his own seat for the first time (right by the window)!

The next trip was to Portland, Oregon for Lucy's friend Claire's wedding in the "mountains" and some fun in the city with Lucy's cousin Renee and her family (including just-turned-one, run-about Ty). Again Sam and Addie were champs on the flight (this time only 2) and Sam even learned how to buckle his own seat belt which he did on the return flight without any prompting. What a champ! The wedding was very nice at a rustic old ranch 20 miles in the backwoods overlooking Mt. Hood. Portland was great too. The kids loved playing with their 2nd cousin Ty and Lucy and I had a great time visiting with Renee and Grant (Renee's husband, not my brother).

The rest of July has been a frenzy of fun getting Sam comfortable in wading pools, watching Addie crawl and discover the world, and just enjoying being together as a family. Sam has entered a new level intellectually now. His speech is clear and crisp and he has started asking probing questions like "what you guys talking about?" Addie has picked up some sign language, mainly for water, and has a few words like "mama", "dada", and "nehneh" for nursing. She is an adventurous spirit who dives right in to everything. She is already cruising and can stand up on her own.

All in all, it has been a busy month, but we couldn't be happier. Oh yeah, we have a boat load of pictures that will be uploaded soon so check back.
