Rolling

Word on the street is that Sam rolled over from tummy to back on Monday (twice). I have not witnessed this newfound capability, but the news comes from a good source. I'll update this post as more information becomes available.

Kansas City

As I mentioned in the previous two posts, we were in Kansas City last weekend visiting family. We had a wonderful time staying with Great Grandma Ann and Great Grandpa Dick. We saw Grandma Debbie, Great Uncle Tom and Great Aunts Pam and Martha as well, along with Cousins Carolyn and Andrew. Here's a question. My grandma Ann is Sam's great grandma Ann. My uncle Tom is Sam's great uncle Tom. So what is my Cousin Carolyn to Sam? Great cousin? 2nd cousin? Leave me a comment if you have an idea.

In the mean time, enjoy these pictures;

Sadness

It is with tremendous sadness that we learned tonight of the passing of Sam's Great Grandmother, my Grandmother Georgia, earlier this afternoon. Georgia was a marvelous woman who loved my Grandfather Earl dearly and embraced Earl's family, including me, as her own. She was the kindest woman, yet stronger than most and she shared her love with everyone she met.

Georgia's passing was not unexpected as she had seen her health decline rapidly in recent months. Fortunately, she was surrounded by her family until the very end, staying with her daughter Georganne.

I do find some comfort in the fact that Lucy and I were able to visit with Georgia this past Saturday while we were in Kansas City. Sam was able to meet his Great Grandmother and Georgia was able to meet her 12th great grandchild. I can still see the smile and joy on Georgia's face while Sam laughed (and drooled) as he squeezed her finger. It was a wonderful visit and I was fortunate to be able to tell Georgia how much we all loved her one last time.

To Mike, Georgeanne, Donna, and Brian and your entire extended families, our thoughts are with you. We love you.

To Great Grandma Georgia, we will miss you tremendously, but you will never be far from our hearts. May peace be with you.

4 months and counting

Sam turns 4 months old on Thursday! I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. We'll be celebrating by driving down to Kansas City to visit Grandma Debby, Great Grandma Ann, Great Grandpa Dick, Great Grandma Georgia as well as assorted Grand Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. I'm sure a lot of wonderful pictures will be taken, but to kick things off I've created a new album of Sam at 4 months plus or minus which can be seen to the right, or by clicking here. More pictures will be posted following our trip.

Now for your part. We know people are looking at this blog (I've added a counter which tracks visitors to the site) and at Sam's pictures, however, comments are few and far between. In fact since March 5th, only one person has left a comment (thank you Grandma Pat). Its easy to do, simply click on the # comments at the bottom-right of a post that you like, were moved by, thought of something, whatever, and leave a comment. You can even read what other people have written. It couldn't be much easier. And Sam will love you for doing it. Now go look at the pictures and check back soon for more.

PS. Older photo albums can still be seen here.

High Steppin' (video)

Over the last six weeks or so, Sam has really taken to standing up. It has gotten to the point where he even initiates the effort by pulling on our hands to tug himself up. The video below, taken about a month ago, captures Sam's excitement and energy while standing.

So does this picture that Lucy took earlier today.

Thirteen

Saw Sam's new pediatrician on Monday and he (Sam, not the pediatrician) weighed in at 13 lbs 2 oz. Way to grow, boy!

Last night

Last night was a big night for Sam. First he went to cousin Gracie's 8th birthday party at the roller rink. He was amazed at all the lights and sounds and people wizzing by on their skates. Then he came home and fell asleep around 8:30 pm. He didn't wake again until after 4 am (note: prior sleep record stood at 4 hours). Ok, maybe last night was a big night for Lucy and Chris too. :)
